WHEN JESUS IS INVITED (2) – Mother’s Are Amazing | John 2:2 | My Jesus Today – Lesson 12 | David Adeniji
I remember vividly, how my mum bought a plate of rice from one woman in the town where my first pre-degree campus was located, just to familiarize with her so she could accommodate me in her shop for a few days, since I just secured that admission after 4 years of seeking it.
The town is very far from Lagos, the admission was quite sudden, but my mum would go any length just so I don’t miss it this time. My presence in school was compulsory, the family had just squeezed out every penny to pay school fees, and there was nothing left to rent accommodation. Today isn’t mother’s day, neither is it her birthday, but you should help me celebrate my mother. I tell you, mothers are angels.
Isn’t it worthy of note that Jesus’ Mother was present at his first miracle outing – the water-to-wine miracle? She was even there before Jesus (John 2:1). She must have been the one who invited Him (John 2:2). Did it also occur to you that Jesus’ Mother was also the one who announced to Jesus, the need for a miracle? – “Their wine has finished” (John 2:3b). So she was instrumental to Jesus’ global launch into ministry!
Now, this is not a coincidence. To me, its deliberate on the part of Mary. Remember that Jesus is 100% human and 100% God. So even though Mary knew her son was the savior, she also was sensitive enough to play her part as the human custodian of her son.
Parents are like guardian angels to their children. The mothers especially, are simply amazing! But yet, I see many parents joke with their children’s destinies and get so casual about it. They leave the children all by themselves just too early. My wife would often say “Honey, do you know we are the ‘Jesus’ that these kids can physically relate with?”
See, guard your children’s path so jealously and shield them like a mother-hen would shield her chicks against the hawk. Defend them! Do that in every way you can – in provision, counselling and in prayer. God is their protector, but you are the caretaker. Whether they are still babies, teenagers or adults, it doesn’t matter. No matter how matured they have grown spiritually, there’s an anointing a mother carries, just like the mother-eagle, that makes them see what their children do not see! Hallelujah!
