LOVE in DEED and in TRUTH | 1 John 3:18 | The Lord Of The Harvest – Lesson 19 | David ADENIJI
Some years ago, I was in serious debt. I couldn’t pay rent, both at home and at my business place. The Landlord at my business place sent me packing, and for about 2 weeks, we shutdown operations.. Customers who had paid for one service or the other threatened me with arrest. I was in trouble, but I kept crying to God for help. At a point, I had only two days ultimatum, or I’ll be in a more in serious trouble. I and my wife ran to everyone we knew, but no help.
Then I remembered a friend. I knew he may not have the money I’m looking for, but I went to him all the same. It was a miracle. He got that money for me from another friend, on a Sunday. He stood as my surety, that if I don’t refund it at the appointed time, he’ll be made to pay. I got the money on Sunday, and settled all my debts on Monday. The business place was opened and customers were served with their services, so, no more arrest. I saw God in action, but he used a friend that loved in DEED and in TRUTH.
I’ve met several people in my life, who painfully, they love to love you and they confess to love you, but they can’t stick their necks out for you. They just want to be safe with their love, and never get committed at all. If they start a process of helping you, they never see it to completion. And if you go back to them, they tell you, I tried my best. Don’t be like that! Sometimes your best is not enough. You need to do more than your best and love in DEED, and in sincerity, not deceiving the other party, and certainly not just in words. That’s what 1 John 3:18 is saying.
Sometimes, I wonder, is this the kind of love Jesus died to show us? There are two ways to love. Speak it – say we love you, lament and sympathize with emotions and tears… OR show it. Meet a need and be there . If you’re never part of anyone’s life. Very soon, you’ll be all alone, all by yourself. When you win, you celebrate alone. When you have challenges, no one to help.
You see, what I’m saying here is real. Bible says Let’s not love in words or by tongue only. But rather in DEED and in Truth (1 John 3:18). It means in practice and sincerity. Well, the love we’re talking about here is love towards our brethren. You can’t love without giving, without sacrifice. Your true worth us how much you give and not how much you have.
Yes, we may have been locked down for a while due to a pandemic, but the pandemic is over. It’s time to launch out again and awaken dormant relationships. A visit may spike a new relationship. Whatever you can, show that you love and love in DOING, not just in talking.
