JEHOVAH THERISMOS (The Lord Of The Harvest) | Matt 9:35-38 | Lesson 12 | David ADENIJI
Some years ago, I worked as a webmaster in a Bible School. We had organized a teaching event and hoped there’d be about 1,000 people in attendance. We had spent so much money on publicity across every platform, invited seasoned speakers and also spent money to cater for 1,000 people. That’s 1,000 plates of food. 1,000 brochures for attendees, and so on.
But somehow, till today, we don’t know what happened. Less than 20 people showed up. You may call it poor event management on our part or maybe it’s the work of the devil. But the sad reality is: The provision was plenty, participants were too few. Anyway, we ended up sharing those 1,000 plates of food among ourselves and our neighbors in and around the church.
I believe that’s exactly the feeling when Jesus saw the multitude that came to him for healing and deliverances of all forms. They were so many and he healed all of them. Yet, he knew there we’re still many more of them out in the world in need of healing and deliverances from all forms of oppressions and diseases. And so, he told his disciples and he’s telling you today:
“The Harvest is Plenty, but the laborer are few.”
What harvest? The Harvest of souls. Today, we start the journey by learning to feel exactly what Jesus felt, and learning to do what he did. Bible says, when Jesus saw the multitude, He was moved with compassion. How do you feel when you see an unsaved person? Bible says Jesus felt compassion because they fainted and we’re scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd. That’s true. Every one who is unsaved is a sheep will without shepherd – vulnerable!
Today’s lesson is simple. Are you compassionate? The first need of any one who is not saved is salvation not advice or money. But we can’t help them get that salvation if we don’t show compassion. Compassion happens when you imagine and put yourself in people’s shoes. You feel their pain and you’re ready to get them out of it. Question: How compassionate are you? That’s the first step to getting a soul saved.
