When you visit doctors, you get drugs for your ailment. If you decide not to take the drugs and insist that by Jesus’ stripes you are healed, it will be unto you according to your faith. However, if you find yourself doubting and nursing fear of whether your faith will work or not, please don’t force it. Take the drugs, while you continue building your faith for divine health. Afterall, God deals with you according to your measure of faith – Rom 12:3

But then, if you go about taking poisonous drinks and food injurious to your health because you feel you have taken drugs or that you have faith for healing, you’re on your own. God could even hold you responsible, should anything happen to you. That’s how I explain Romans 6:1. “We cannot remain in sin and say that grace should abound”.

This explanation will help us proceed further in understanding how to walk in the spirit. Earlier we saw in Gal 5:16 (TLB) that walking in the spirit is following the holy Spirit’s instructions, if we don’t want to fulfil the lusts of the flesh.

But lets go a step further, still with the Living Bible Translation. Verse 18 tells us that the only way to be free from forcing ourselves to obey the whole law is to remain guided by the spirit. In essence, obey just one rlule and receive the grace to fulfil all. That single rule is “Walk In The Spirit”! Verse 19 lists to us the many works of the flesh, the bad things! But verse 22 bails us out, it simply nails it! The surest way to avoid fulfilling the many works of the flesh listed in verse 19 is to embrace the fruits of the spirit stated in verses 22-23! Not by struggling to avoid the lusts of the flesh stated earlier.

Note however, that according to my introduction, this doesn’t mean you go about recklessly commiting those lusts of the flesh. That’s against your new nature. You get that? Your new nature by default as outlined from verse 22, is love, joy, peace, patience…meekness….faith…etc. That’s who you are. Take each as a project, be engrossed with loving the unlovable, staying at peace in the middle of a storm, rejoicing always in the Lord, and you will have no passion left in you to lust in the flesh. That’s how it works. That’s how to walk in the spirit. Hallelujah! Amen.
