In the last class we saw that joy is the first and most evident blessing we find on those who have been to the river, those who have been with Jesus. Now, we will continue our journey into the River. In this class, we’ll stop at the river side and fetch three different blessings waiting for us there. In Psalms 1 verses 1 to 3, we see that there’s a reward for refusing to walk in the counsel of the ungodly, staying away from sin and staying delighted in God’s word. That reward is that you’d be PLANTED BY THE RIVER OF WATER. What a blessing!

Theme: Come, Drink – Lesson 8

Hear that scripture yourself. Hear it again, hope you’re with your Bible, let’s check it together. Psalms 1 verses 1 to 3. David wrote 150 Psalms, or perhaps even more. And the river is mentioned in the 3rd verse.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Now, here we go again, At the River of Water. Hallelujah.

Maybe we should read that scripture in the living Bible. You’d love the word more when you compare scriptures and compare versions. Now, check this out.

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice, who do not hang around with sinners, scoffing at the things of God.

2 But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely.

3 They are like trees along a riverbank bearing luscious fruit each season without fail. Their leaves shall never wither, and all they do shall prosper.

There you have it. It’s quite interesting to know that God’s word is loaded, just for you.

Now, let’s check that scripture and see that three things qualify you to be planted at the riverbank. And actually when you get planted, at this river, you also qualify for three blessings. Isn’t that amazing. God’s word is so organized. In this class, we’ll be starting with those things that qualify you to be planted at the Riverbank.

  1. Refusing to walk in the counsel of the ungodly,
  2. Staying away from sin and sinners and
  3. Staying delighted in God’s word.

Let’s talk.about each of them. The living Bible will help us again.

That verse 1 says . Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice.

The counsel of the ungodly simply mean evil men’s advise. Please be careful whose advise you take, or who you call your mentor or your coach or leader. Who do you listen to? Who are they and who is God to them. That someone is making sense doesn’t make him your counsellor. Well, I believe I’m taking to those who have God’s spirit in them, or who are ready to receive Jesus right here, because this is notmotivation. It’s a sermon.

Take a look at Absalom, David’s son, and Ahithophel the royal counselor. Bible says in 2 Sam 16:23 that the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

It means, a royal unction was upon Ahithophel. God’s spirit was upon him I believe, so he gave prophetic counsel, as an oracle of God… But that was until David Cursed him in 2 Sam, 15:31 when he joined the conspiracy of Absalom against His father, David, the King, the Lord’s anointed. I’m sure he got greedy for gain. He was too blind to see that the blessings of God maketh rich and added no sorrow. Prob 10:22

2 Sam 15:31 says, And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness. Please, be careful the people you follow, as spiritual leader. I won’t talk much on that.

That was how Ahithophel lost his unction and became an evil counsellor. In our own time, several leaders have become evil counsellors because they have cut corners to rise to leadership. May our land be healed of this plague in Jesus Name.

The curse of David on Ahithophel began to manifest when he counseled Absalom to sleep with him father’s women. Can you imagine, What a horrible counsel, coming from onewhose counsel was once likened to God’s voice.

Who is your counselor? Who do you take advise from? Father, We purge our nation of evil counsellors in Jesus Name. Every adviser to the government people, we purge them of every evil counsel in Jesus Name. We impart upon them the spirit of righteousness, because we do not want to walk in the counsel of evil men.

  1. The second condition for being planted at the riverbank follows after the first. Still in Psalm 1:1, Bible says One who does not hang around sinners. God hates sin and so should you. You’re even to abstain from or flee every appearance of evil. Hanging around sinners is like sitting with smokers claiming you don’t smoke. Your lungs will be as badly hit as theirs. That’s it.

Hanging around fornicators or adulterers or jesting and gisting with them in your office or maybe your classsrom and knowing their crooked ways, is equal to chasing God’s spirit gradually our of your heart and out of your atmosphere, because sin stinks! Yes it does. God hates it. Please hate sin with passion. Run away when it’s discussed.

Don’t listen to bad music, claiming it’s sweet music. Check the lyrics, if it’s not edifying, please change the channel. Stop the movie,Β  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Prov 4:23

Please don’t be careless, with your heart. Out if it flows the issues of life. Out of your bellies should flow out rivers of living waters according to John 7:38, one of our anchor Scriptures for this series. Don’t allow anything polute your heart. If you do, you may not be qualified for that riverbank establishment that qualifies you for three blessings which we will soon see.

  1. The third thing that qualifies you to be planted at the riverbank is my favorite. Because that is what the Elapino app was built to achieve

Psalm 1:2 says – But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Again hear how the living Bible puts it.

Psalm 1:2 – But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely.

This is packed you know. We are to delight in doing everything God wants. And meditate in his word day and night. According to the living Bible translation of that, that simply means thinking always about ways to follow him closely. That’s a cool formula. To meditate in his law day and night is to think through his word day and night but it doesn’t end there. To meditate is to keep thinking about God, thinking about how to follow him closely. Do you know that you cannot please God by your self, but when you spare time to thinking about how you can follow him more closely, His spirit will certainly show you how. Hallelujah.

From today, you will qualify for God’s riverbank. You will cease to follow evil men’s counsel, you will detach yourself from sinful associations and lustful gatherings in Jesus name. Meditation will be your hobby, social.media and Tv will not steal your time away any more. You will convert quality time for thinking through His word henceforth, in Jesus Name.

But you need power to cross to Jesus’s side and remain there. Are you saying, yes, I need that power. I want to change, but I just can’t. Are you saying, okay, I’m ready for this Jesus, I want to dedicate my heart to him once and for all. Do you want to Give your life to Jesus and leave him with him once and for life?

If yes, Say, say Lord Jesus, I’m ready, my heart is open, I want to be planted by the river bank, so I can experience the blessings thereof. I repent of my sins and I refuse to hang henceforth in the company of sinners. I renounce Evey evil association, and I cling into you Jesus. I accept you as my Lord and saviour. Thank you for saving me, in Jesus Name, Amen.

In the next class, we look at the 3 blessings that come from being planted by the riverbank.
