AT THE RIVER OF JOY
From this class, we take a deeper dive into the River. Maybe it’s just not yet sinking yet into your spirit. Let me tell you clearly, indeed there is a River. And that River is the totality of the flow of everything God and everything good that God passes to us. That River is God himself and he wasn’t silent about it all through the scriptures.
Come, Drink, Lesson 7
We will not waste time at all. Let’s look at a few different blessings we receive from this river. Bible says in Psalms 46 verse 4 that:
There is a River, the streams thereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the Tabernacles of the most high. That scripture immediately introduced us to the first blessings we receive as we dive into this river – God Himself. Joy. Hallelujah, Joy. He said the streams of this river MAKE GLAD the city of God. We will not interpret that as mere happiness. It has to be more. That is Joy! Yes, Joy.
As a matter of deeper study, when I checked the root word translated glad in that psalm 46:4 to see other occurrences of it in the Bible, I found our amazingly that the word translated GLAD in that verse, was rendered as REJOICE in many other portions of the bible.
An example of this is Psalm 5:11
But let all those that put their trust in thee REJOICE: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Also, we have it in 1 Samuel 2:1, Bible says
And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
So, there you have it. Rejoice in those scriptures has the same root word as GLAD in Psalm 46:4
Joy is said to be the first evidence of salvation. The first evidence of a changed life. In Psalm 51 when the prophet Nathan indicted David of having sinfully snatched another man’s wife after fornication and murder, David quickly begged God in Verse 12 that his salvation be restored. And in making this plea, he said ‘Restore unto me the Joy of Your Salvation’. Meaning that when you lose your joy, you’re losing your salvation already. It’s that serious.
Joy is the first fruit of salvation
Joy is the first sign you see on a person and you know that he has been with Jesus. Have you been with Jesus?. No wonder Bible says in Isaiah 12:3 that
Therefore with joy shall you draw out water from the wells of salvation.
So, again have you been to the river of joy? Have you been with Jesus? If you have, then it will be seen on you. The problem many have is that they have actually been with Jesus, they have seen his salvation, they have received answers to many prayers, but they have not received the person of Jesus, they know his acts, they got his miracles, but do not have his person. 2 different things. One who has the person of Jesus will have joy in the most incredible moments. Lord I Love you, we love you Jesus, we have received you as saviour, but today we reaffirm that you are our Lord. When he’s your Lord, do you seriously think there’s anything you are permitted to worry about? None, absolutely none, even when it’s obvious that there’s some challenge. It’s not denial, it’s joy.
Again, I ask, have you been with Jesus? If you have, then your joy will show it. That joy is the first sermon that’s preached through you to the world around you. It prepares their heart for the gospel you want to share with them.
This joy manifests confidence and boldness in the believer. Anyone who has been with Jesus will be bold and confident. The longer you stay with Jesus, the more fearless you become, because faith will take over you and keep taking over you, until it grips you and fear becomes alien. At this level, you become dangerous to anything evil. They fear you, they flee from you, they run away from your domain, because you have signed up with Jesus and you know he’s got your back rather than fear. You’re ready for the worst, because, with Jesus and with Jesus’ inside you, the worst always turn out to be the best. That’s exactly what happened to the 3 Hebrew boys in Daniel chapter 3 verses 16 to 25.
They told the King with boldness and confidence. We will not serve or bow down to you and your gods. If Our God saves us, fine, and if he doesn’t, fine also. They saw eternity rather than fear. They set God on the edge, He must respond.
But fast forward to verse 25 and you will know that they had actually been with Jesus. Had they not, He wouldn’t have joined them in the fire as the 4th person, so visible that the King himself saw Him.
So, again I asked, Have you been with Jesus? Are you still with him. If you are, then you joy will show it, manifested through boldness and confidence. I once said that if anyone asks you a question you don’t have a clue of, don’t jitter or stammer, even if your job or life depends on it. Don’t fear. Tell them what you know if you don’t know what they asked. Life is about questions and answers. About proposals and crushing objections. People like to subscribe you to schemes you have no knowledge of or are in agreement to, just so they can fulfill their own alterior motives. Speak and act with faith, declare what you have and know. Say no if you have to.. Be honest though, don’t tell lies. And equip yourself with the right knowledge and skills. Prepare as much as you can for every examination or interrogation or appraisal. But you see, some tests and events are set up not for your assessment or advantage, but rather so you can fail and be humiliated. The devil plans such often, especially when you’re at the edge of a breakthrough. I’ve been there and I know what it’s like. But From today, God will make use of your your joy that manifests through boldness and confidence to scatter and dumbfound your enemies in Jesus Name.
Let me show you what I mean.
In acts 4:13 Bible says:
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. Now, that’s talking about the government of that time, as they tried to persecute the apostles. You see, your education and affiliations irrespective, when you are with Jesus, you have the best advantage.
Living Bible says, they were amazed and realized what being with Jesus had done for them! Exactly. When people see this joy in you, manifesting through boldness and confidence, they just let you be.
That’s what this joy brings. Boldness you can’t hide it. You don’t even need to go about announcing it. Just announce Jesus instead. That joy announces itself and surmounts every mountain.
So in this class, we take delivery of our joy package at the river, indeed there is a River, and it’s streams make glad the city of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 commands us to rejoice evermore, and that will be your portion henceforth in Jesus Name. Amen.
However, to drink from this river of joy, you have to be with Jesus. That’s it, you just have to come to Him and stay with him. If he’s already your saviour , He must be your Lord, so that fear is replaced with faith, boldness and confidence. Joy will then radiate all over you. Are you ready for this experience?
Say Lord Jesus, I have come to draw water from your well of salvation. I know you are ready to give me that drink of joy from your river. I’m sorry for my sins and I repent of them and forsake them. I accept the as my Lord and Savior. Receive your joy as it is evident on me a I radiate it to my world. Thank you for saving me, In Jesus Name. Amen.
